Start Grez-Neuville| Period: Week-end (Mayenne-Maine) – 6H return trip
Experience a city whith its unique mood ; where the cultural patrimony is as breathtaking as the friendly and upbeating setting of the city center. Worldwide known landmark of botanics and close to a protected “Natura 2000” area : those who love nature will find here a journey worth doing.
Upon arrival Friday around 4PM to our Base in Grez Neuville : boarding and training in your river houseboat.
Enjoy navigation for less than an hour to the beautiful lock of La Roussière : a little piece of heaven hidden in the valley : the perfect place to spend your first night aboard !
On Saturday, head toward the soothing city of Angers : 2h30 of navigation.

Invisible to the eye, the town center of Montreuil is hanging on top of a deep and meandering valley where the Mayenne river is flowing. A nice place to stop and enjoy the towpath along the river ; or climb along the many paths going up to reach the village and its shops.

A good place to start a walk, exploring the plains and marshes of the “Natura 2000” preserved area between the Sarthe and Mayenne rivers. Three different paths arranged to allow watching migrating bird and the fauna of the region.

This island, resting where the Sarthe and Mayenne meet, has a secret ! During winer, it is almost entirely covered by the waters ; which turns it the perfect spot to hike during summer in the middle of a unique and preserved fauna and flora. Moor near the ferry and walk up to the Island’s farm and enjoy its exhibits, playgrounds and restaurant (do not miss the “fouées” : a local specialty !). Or stay on the western side to walk up to Terra Botanica : a 40 ha parc dedicated to botanic, garden and everything around the vegetal. Everyone loves it !

Follow the Maine river down to the “Cale de la Savatte”, a marina in the heart of Angers city. Perfect starting point to go visit the Castle on the other bank, the cultural landmarks as David d’Angers gallery or Jean Lurçat’s museum etc … which buildings are as magnificent as the exhibit they are displaying.
But in order to truly experience the smooth angevine mood, head to the city center to climb one of the many pedestrian streets, through the lively pubs, shops, restaurants, etc …
Beside the many events during high season (do not miss Tempo Rives festival !) ; Angers is THE place to plan an activity with the family or friends. Follow the river down to the Lac de Maine and its many sporting offers, enjoy a beer or a concert at Le Héron Carré ; or try one of the many Escape Games in town ; along many others …
Enjoy Angers city during the morning if you did not manage to do everything you wanted (to be completely honest, we could spend so many days there …). We advise you to start navigating back to Grez Neuville during the beginning of the afternoon, in order not to be in a hurry and enjoy the journey (3 hours of navigation).
You are totally free on your journey’s way. Choose your visits and stopovers as you please.
